Formal Petition to Attorney General-Designate Eric Holder to appoint a Special Prosecutor to investigate and prosecute any and all government officials who have participated in War Crimes.

"Dear Attorney General Eric Holder,

We the undersigned citizens of the United States hereby formally petition you to appoint a Special Prosecutor to investigate and prosecute any and all government officials who have participated in torture and other war crimes.

Update 1: Initially, we emailed Mr. Holder at his law firm. On 12/20/08 we received a reply from Mr. Holder: "Enough folks. I hear you." So out of respect we stopped forwarding each signature individually.

Update 2: After his Senate confirmation on 2/2/09, we began forwarding each signature to the Justice Department. We are trying to schedule a meeting to deliver the full list of signatures. "

Bush committed hate crimes

Speaking of U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder:

Eric Holder is a racial-minority individual, and in his heart and mind he inevitably does not endorse hate crimes committed by George W. Bush.

George W. Bush committed hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism (indicated in my blog).

George W. Bush did in fact commit innumerable hate crimes.

And I do solemnly swear by Almighty God that George W. Bush committed other hate crimes of epic proportions and with the stench of terrorism which I am not at liberty to mention.

Many people know what Bush did.

And many people will know what Bush did—even to the end of the world.

Bush was absolute evil.

Bush is now like a fugitive from justice.

Bush is a psychological prisoner.

Bush has a lot to worry about.

Bush can technically be prosecuted for hate crimes at any time.

In any case, Bush will go down in history in infamy.

I am not sure where I had read it before, but anyway, it is a linguistically excellent statement, and it goes kind of like this: “If only it were possible to ban invention that bottled up memories so they never got stale and faded.” Oh wait—off the top of my head—I think the quotation came from my Lower Merion High School yearbook.

There's no question that

There's no question that Cheney/Bush are guilty of many crimes (and acts of terror) and should be thoroughly prosecuted for them. In any semi-just society, they would certainly go to prison for the rest of their lives. Though I'm leery of making statements like this so close in history to the event (I mean, to be fair, we have had a *lot* of bad presidents), I think you may well be correct that Bush will go down in history as the worst president ever, or if not that certainly one of the very worst. I'll quibble with you philosophically here, though, on the question of whether Bush is "absolute evil." No one is absolute evil simply because no one has exclusively negative characteristics. Even the people who have done the worst things in history also did at least some good things!—and regardless, his actions are the causal result of a system that creates people like him. Although what Cheney/Bush did was horrible and created unquantifiable amounts of needless suffering, I'm not sure hyperbole is going to help get the job done here. Still, I strongly agree with the basic thrust of your point—in order to prevent these kinds of abuses in the future, we must absolutely hold those who committed them accountable.
